Cystic Psychosis

This one has drool and blood, what could be better? I can't get over how many mysteries young children have to reveal. Like the thing that's a dead ringer for an inexplicable cavity smack in the middle of the molar that's been making its ponderous presence painfully known for the last week, but is really a teething blister — a.k.a. an eruptive cyst. (Make that 5,001.)

Noodnickel For Your Thoughts

Michael Hiltzik's column is consistently one of the best parts of the Los Angeles Times, and today is no exception: As Apple Suit Shows, 'Journalism' Is Broad:

Newspapers, magazines and TV and radio services aren't invariably exemplars of serious news gathering; many are brainless, irresponsible or purveyors of propaganda. Conversely, although many weblogs and websites are outlets for wingnuts and noodniks, many others provide trenchant and incisive news and analysis.

Catch it quick, before it slips into the paid archives.

Step 1: Listen To Cory...

It's a vocabularic maelstrom through the past, the future, underpants gnomes, and Vichy-nerds. It's not "fuzzy-headed, patchouli-scented, info-hippyness." It's Cory Doctorow on the Chris Pirillo Show. Required listening for every IP and/or technology lawyer drawing breath. Be prepared to rewind often, laugh, and marvel.

WikiWow

Wikipedia just gets more and more impressive. Check out the detailed "nascent" entry on Benedict XVI [via Daypop]. And this morning my dad needed details about the Chinese government as background for his latest writing project. He called up — resigned, no doubt, to doing a couple of hours of online research and wanting advice on how to get going. It took less than 30 seconds to find and send him this link. I know he had better ways to spend those couple of hours.

[Update:] Ok, so apparently some shenanigans have been going on, but as Dan Gillmor points out this is still pretty amazing for something that wasn't there a few days ago.

Macrobial

I knew Marc Canter would have something interesting to say about the Adobe/Macromedia deal. And he did.
