Resident Weeble

Shh. Tyler finally is asleep in a spot that does not involve any portion of my anatomy. Here's something I didn't know until post-delivery. The first month with a newborn is like a particularly sadistic yet addictive video game (whether first person shooter or role playing, I haven't quite decided). The game's primary goal is to keep the Baby from Crying. Secondarily, game play also involves keeping the Baby Fed and Clean (see Goal 1), as well as free from Harm and Sickness. Tertiary goals include the occasional meal, restroom visit, and dose of vitamins for the Gamer. Bonus points are awarded for the Shower Maneuver, but don't plan on accomplishing it without some serious cheats. Oops, game on again, now where did that diaper-sabre go?

Today's New Blawg

Napsterization is a joint project of Mary Hodder and Eddan Katz, aimed at exploring digital media connections and providing "a repository of stories on positive uses of peer-to-peer file sharing as well as a resource of information supporting these principles." [Via Donna Wentworth] Two examples of cool and legal P2P: Hello (more) and Skype (more).

Angels In America, Devils At The Courthouse

Doc enjoyed Angels in America, as did I. Jeffrey Wright's performance was particularly gripping, but blawgers beware: lawyers and appellate court clerks were portrayed far from gently.

Today's New Blawg

The law student author of the Idea Outlet just turned me on to what will become part of the 99.99% of our holiday gifts purchased online this year: the Bob Dylan biography, Down the Highway. [Via Scheherazade] Babies are wonderful, but one's own transformation into a one-armed, shut-in, sleep-walking milk carton for the first month of their lives is not something that comes up often enough in texts extolling the joys of motherhood. (Mother Shock indeed!) As long as I'm posting book links, Sabrina Pacifici made my week with The Baby Owner's Manual: Operating Instructions, Trouble-Shooting Tips, and Advice on First-Year Maintenance, a geek's guide to everything infant, with illustrations and phraseology worthy of one of Engineer Scott's Technical Journals: "Hair: Not available upon delivery with every model. Tint may vary." A perfect companion to the ThinkGeek baby collection.
